Spine has a future as a media and performance work. It is scheduled for presentation in 2023 at the Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns.

The next stage of Spine's creative development journey will further explore the cultural relationship of environments. Through the synergy of presence and absence, international narratives can be explored as imaginations of place. Environmental concerns are adapted to create an artistic experience through network streams. Further dialogue with Elders and Traditional Owners will complement the artists' interest in the mythological sublime and the natural sciences.

The intention is to use prototypes such as this animation and model to inform an imaginary network. Turning to the appearance of large-scale projection mapped surrounds in the industrial spaces of the Tanks Arts Centre in the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct as a virtual imaginary site.

In future, in a post COVID-19 world, we hope to reconect in time and place with our international collaborating artists from around the globe and include them in the experience and practice associated with the Spine project. We acknowledge the media and performance artists David Gumbs from the Caribbean, and Lucas Wilson-Spiro based in Berlin who were poised to travel and work as collaborators before international borders were closed.
