Silent Beat

The sound composition explores elements of decay through manipulation of musical instruments beyond their designed soundworld. The use of extended technique challenges the restriction of stereotypes, conformity and compliance to embedded belief systems, while expanding on unique creation and human interaction. Yang follows Yin. Rebirth in these reinvented instruments echoes rebirth in the natural environment amongst remnants of European transience in old mines, ruins of technologies and belief systems deserted and decaying. As sound resonates through the body, this element bears a metaphoric and physical relationship with humanity's interaction and conflict with all external environments, highlighting the separation of internal and external environments - natural and 'created'. Silent Beat have developed Fuzzy Aura and the Hour of The Spirit (CD), Nepean River: Sketches in Sound (CD) in 1998 & Hurdles, sound installation, Lewers Bequest and Regional Art Gallery (1997).
